What a pitch report tells you
A good pitch report is a tactical read. It tells you which phase of the innings the surface favours, which bowling type will get value, and what a competitive total is likely to look like.
Pace & bounce
How quickly the ball arrives, how true the bounce is and whether seamers can extract carry through the powerplay.
Turn & grip
Whether spinners get drift, dip and grip — and at what stage of the match the surface starts to slow.
Dew & second-innings behaviour
Dew can flatten a surface and neutralise spin in the second innings — a major factor in evening fixtures across the subcontinent.
